It seems we all make them, and give up on them before the month of January is even close to being over. Most of us, according to research, make the resolution to lose weight. But why is that the most popular New Year’s Resolution?

Is it because we are ready to treat our bodies as the important pieces of ourselves that they are, or because we feel inadequate against all the skinny bodies flashed across magazines and televisions?

I’m going to bet it has more to do with the second reason than the first. One reason why I believe this, just visit Pinterest and look in the fitness section. There are a billion pictures used as inspiration that look like this…

Why, are we using someone else’s body as our inspiration? Our bodies are individual and unique and when we start using our own bodies as inspiration, perhaps we will be using that first reason as the reason for losing weight this new year.

Until we start to choose the right reason for losing weight, accomplishing that resolution will likely never happen, or it will happen only to back slide later in the year.
