For those that enjoy Anne Rice, Laurel K. Hamilton, Patricia Brigss, and the likes, Donna Boyd’s novel The Passion will be a must on your bookshelf. Narrator Alexander Devoncroix’s, werewolf and once Pack Leader, weaves a tale of passion, love, betrayal, and triumph.

Set in the France in the late 1800′s, Alexander befriends a curious human female, Tessa. Her teniousness, her thrist for life amuses Alexander and he views her as a innocent, if yet trying, child. Tessa is grudgingly accepted into the pack, but is never allowed to behold all its secrets. Of course, her adoration and devotion of Alexander leads to misplaced feelings of love that can only lead her and the pack to disaster.

The pack history laid out by Boyd is unique and intriguing and the read is enjoyable for those that are inclined to werewolf tales. I recommend it for those weekends when there is just nothing else to do, or as a great beach read.
